Hello I am Jeremiah Whitaker and I am a intern for reimagine/ATL. TERMINUS is a four-day event in Atlanta for filmmakers, gamers, creators, and fans. It’s a festival, a party, and a convention that features hands-on workshops, exclusive screenings, killer parties, and so much more.
This is my experience at Terminus:
Thursday June 16, 2016
Day 1 : Today was really fun. I was able to enjoy the film that students and groups made for the festival. Terminus set up a shuttle that took people to the theater and back. The shuttle was very helpful. When I got to the theater I saw a wide selection of movies. There was horror, comedy, romantic, touching, and thriller movies that were all played on one screen. Some of the movie selections were random, but they did keep my attention. I also enjoyed the staff which took care of you and answer any question they could at the Q&A. The film I saw was about a black boy who had very little, but gave to others anyway. I asked Lorenzo Yearby, the movie director, about the theme of his film and he told me he wanted black people to be seen in a positive way and not just robbers, thieves, and in jail. Everyone was also so welcoming and generous which made the environment comfortable.

Day 2: This was one of the best days to network. I went to the workshops and learned a lot. The people in the podium explained in great detail about the subject. Terminus brought workshops that would be really helpful to others. My personal favorite was the workshop was the Unconscious Bias. It mostly talked about assuming something about a person before you meet or talk to them. It showed that people may be totally different than they appear. I also got to meet a lot of people that had the same interest as me. I got many business cards and numbers of people that can I do projects with in the near future.

Day 3: The workshops were still open today, but this time I decided to go to the gaming expo. The games they had were really fun to play. It was also a nice way to meet other people and play games with them throughout the day. They also had game systems the were old school and in good shape. The staff was very helpful because they gave you any game you would ask for. While the gaming expo was going on, the shuttle was taking people to see films at SCAD theater. I later decided to leave the gaming expo and head to SCAD theater. I watched a couple of films and they were outstanding. I went back to the hotel and made it to the party. This was my favorite party because the most diverse music was played and a lot of people were dancing wild.

Day 4: This was the last day and it was a lot of fun. Today I visited a filmmaking workshop, gaming workshop, and some festival screenings. I heard about the red carpet event and awards ceremony, so I went to get dressed up after I finished the activities. When I finished getting dressed up, I headed to the Marriott Marquis to get picked up by the shuttle. The first event was the red carpet event and it was great. There was an opening performance by AJR that really got the crowd going. Then the award ceremony started which Judah Friedlander hosted. Mr. Friedlander is the “World champion” persona. He came out on stage with lots of jokes and funny comments and made almost everyone laugh. There were more special guests that got on stage but Hannibal Buress was my favorite. He came out with lots of enthusiasm and jokes. Some winners were not there to receive their award, but the night still ended well. At 10:30, I went to the after party and it was very fun.
Overall, TERMINUS was a great experience. I got to meet lots of different people and personalities. I also met people similar to me. I networked with them and might be doing some projects with them later. This event included business and fun. I personally enjoyed it and would recommend anyone interested in film to be apart of TERMINUS next year!
